When should I expect my cycling pack?
Your cycling event numbers will be issued from April 2024
If you secure your place after the cut off date for postage, one week before the event, you will need to collect your run number from our information point on the morning of the event. at the start at Seahouses main car park.
We are unable to post run packs outside of the UK. It will be made ready for collection from the information point.
Does my entry fee include Medal and Cycle Top?
Yes, your £35 registration fee includes Medal and Cycle Top, but please remember we rely on sponsorship money and donations. Your entry fee only covers the cost to put on the event.
Do I need to wear a cycle helmet?
We know it is not compulsory but we recommended that all participants wear cycling helmets.
How much sponsorship do I have to raise in order to take part?
The Great North Bike Ride is owned by and only fundraises for the Chris Lucas Trust – please note, no other charities are accepted. There is no minimum sponsorship limit for entry – but we hope you will ask friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you and help make a real difference to fighting childhood cancer. If 2,000 cyclists raise £50 each that’s £100,000 for research into rhabdomyosarcoma.
Is there help on route in case I have problems?
Yes, we have marshals along the route and radio operators every 5 miles. We use cars, vans, motorbikes and bikes on route and are also pleased to have bike mechanics, To Be Announced Soon, supporting the ride. Heartmed will be there on the day with an ambulance, and additional first aid staff will be at Warkworth Castle High Street (by the monument) and also at Tynemouth (at Prior Haven Car Park). A sweep vehicle will follow the course ensuring no-one is left behind.
What happens if I get a puncture?
Please make your way to the nearest marshal, all marshals are in contact with each other, they will assist you or call for further assistance.
Are there refreshments on route?
Yes, you’ll find free water, bananas, energy bars and more on route.
We have a great reputation for looking after all our cyclists!
Is the route clearly sign posted?
We have over 100 marshals on route, 6 marshal cars, 3 vans, 3 Heartmed Ambulances, 15 Motorbikes and bike mechanics. Radio Central Command Station with radio controllers throughout the route.
Also we have over 500 large yellow signs letting you know where to go.
Can anyone take part?
Yes, if you are under 16 years of age you are required to cycle with an adult over 18 years old.
What about accommodation if I travel up the day before?
Special offers are available for Great North Bike Ride cyclists, please contact us for more information and guidance.
What if it rains on the day?
In the unlikely event it rains on the day we still go-ahead with this event. We advise all cyclists to take this into consideration
I’ve booked but can’t take part in the event, can I get a refund?
If your entry is accepted, your fee is not refundable unless supported by a doctor’s note. If this is the case please scan a copy of a doctor’s note and email it to us at lynn@chrislucastrust.com
Please also state in your email your full name, date of birth and which event you have entered.
Can I take part with my Electric Bicycle?
Yes, No problems at all.
Can I take part with my tandem?
Yes, No problems at all.
Before the start of the event, what time should I be at Tynemouth for transport to Seahouses?
6:30AM to load your bike to travel to Seahouses. It takes 90 minutes to get to the start.
