It is with huge regret and sadness that we must announce the Great North Bike Ride will not go ahead on Sunday 30th August 2020 and we must cancel this year’s event.
Within the current guidelines and the fluidity of the ongoing crisis, it is unfortunately not sensibly possible to reschedule to another date this year.
As the organisers of the GNBR, the health and safety of everyone involved is of utmost importance to us and we feel we cannot safely operate this event with the current social distancing requirements due to Covid-19.
As a fundraising event this is devastating to us; not only emotionally but financially; however, the safety of all of our supporters and back-up team is of utmost importance.
Our aim will be to move the event and celebrate our 20th anniversary in August 2021.
Everyone who has already registered will be contacted by e-mail soon to ask your preference with regards:
- Do you wish your entry to be transferred to 2021?
- Do you want refund?
- Do you wish to donate your entry to the charity? (then confirm tax payer we can claim gift aid)
Your questions answered:
Will the event be rescheduled to later in 2020?
Unfortunately, due to the timing of the virus outbreak and the many stakeholders involved it will not be possible to reschedule the event. We’re sorely disappointed that this is the case, and we know this will be upsetting for all those signed up to take part, after months of training and fundraising and the amount of effort preparing for the event. Social distancing would not work your safety must come first.
Will I be automatically transferred to next year’s event?
All cyclists who have registered will be contacted soon, if agreed we’ll automatically transfer you over to it, so you don’t need to do anything else.
I can’t make next year’s event can I donate my registration fee & fundraising?
Should you wish to donate your registration fee and fundraising to support our life saving research, you don’t need to do anything. We really appreciate your support and hard work fundraising for us. Thank you.
I can’t make next year’s event and I’d like to have a refund?
Yes no problem and we’ll organise your refund as soon as possible for the registration fees. We’re also able to refund the cost of coach travel if you have booked this.
I booked coach travel – will I be refunded for that?
Yes, we can of course arrange a refund for this.
Are we able to refund sponsorship?
If you’ve been fundraising via JustGiving , Virgin Money, or any other fundraising platform then we’ll need to get in touch with them to authorise the refund or you can extend your page to 2021.
Will my fundraising page carry over to next year’s event?
You can extend your JustGiving page with the 2021 event information and this means you now have even more time to fundraise for our life saving research.
Do you have a Plan B?
We know you’ve been training hard, raising lots of money and prepping yourself for the main event so why not make that training count? We have few ideas to help us and get you guys on your cycles and will update you all soon – keep an eye on our social channels! Covid-19 has changed everything – but we can still beat heartbreak together.
As a charity this is devastating for us but we will get over this and move forward. Childhood cancer still exists and our researchers are still working.
