The Great North Bike Ride is raced in the memory of Chris Lucas, a teenager from Wallsend who died after contracting a rare form of cancer, rhabdomyosarcoma, which he bravely fought for three years.
The Chris Lucas Trust was set up in his name, to raise money which funds research into rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancer which grows in muscles.
It was a drizzly morning in Northumberland, but it did little to deter the cyclists as they made their way south to Tynemouth , having set off from a Seahouses car park shortly before 9am.
