Unfortunately, due to current circumstances, we are unable to mark the occasion with our usual large gathering of eager cyclists, however we have thought up three great alternatives; fundraising activities to suit everyone, to assist us in our ongoing efforts to raise awareness of childhood and young adult cancer and raise funds for The Chris Lucas Trust.
Please help us make a real difference to children and young adults suffering from a rare and aggressive form of cancer by taking part in one (or all!) of this Summer’s events.

July & August – #GNBRNominate
Throughout July and August we are running the GNBR Nominate & Donate challenge, which is designed to be fun, challenging and has the advantage that anyone around the World can enjoy. To take part in #GNBRNominate, simply donate then nominate a friend to a cycle challenge of your choice.
Be as daring as you wish but do remember that your cycling buddy may then challenge you to an equally difficult ride!
As an example: “I nominate Joe Bloggs to cycle up Hedley on the Hill and I will donate £20 to the Chris Lucas Trust, upon completion.”
Photos play an important part in this challenge as we require ride evidence, with results shared on our social channels and Strava using the hashtag #GNBRNominate. If you aren’t member of our Strava club, click here to join today! (https://www.strava.com/clubs/gnbr)
At the end of August we will be awarding a prize, so get involved, nominate a friend and help us raise funds.
To enter, please make your donation, sharing on social channels, along with your nominee and their challenge.
JULY’S CHALLENGE – #GNBRCycleBingo
If you’re a fan of a great view and you are in or around the North East, then why not cycle your way around our iconic north-east rides and landmarks for #GNBRCycleBingo with a chance to win a pair of Shimano cycle shoes.
Including a mix of town and country rides, combining challenging climbs with more sedate, flat sections, the route you choose is up to you, but we just want to see your selfies as you mark off each location to achieve the challenge and complete the series of 6 beauty spots.
Don’t forget to take your selfie at each landmark for us to feature on the #GNBR social channels using the hashtag #GNBRCycleBingo.
To enter, please purchase a bingo card and download from the Great North Bike Ride website. The cost is £5.00 with all proceeds going to The Chris Lucas Trust, if you would like to raise more sponsorship while you are taking part… this would always be welcome.
At the end of July, we will put the names of everyone who has purchased a bingo card and completed the challenge into a draw for a brand new pair of Shimano cycling shoes, either road or MTB.
AUGUST – #GNBRChallenge60
Are you ready for #GNBRChallenge60?
A sponsorship challenge, #GNBRChallenge60 will push you to your limits, challenging you to walk, run or cycle 60 miles in August; the distance normally covered during our annual GNBR event.
If you use Strava, why not log your progress in our dedicated Challenge 60 Strava group?
https://www.strava.com/clubs/GNBRChallenge60
Membership will be opened later in July.
We hope you will help us raise funds in August through sponsorship as you get closer to your 60 mile goal, walking, running or cycling your favourite routes… you can even just walk the dog!
Make up your miles through a combination of challenges on foot or wheels, on your own, or with a friend, whilst raising funds for The Chris Lucas Trust.
This is a great challenge for those who just enjoy being out and about, with an option to stop off at a country pub or two, to break the journey!
Photos and shared experiences are very welcome and, again, we will hold a draw for a prize at the end of August.
To enter, visit and join our JustGiving fundraising page, which you can share with others to support your efforts.
We are all disappointed that this year’s GNBR has been cancelled, so we really hope you will help us make a real difference to children and young adults suffering from a rare and aggressive form of cancer by taking part in one (or all!) of this Summer’s events.
